Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War episode #9 is setting up for the new Head Captain to enter battle for the first time since obtaining the title, marking an exciting moment as he prepares to engage Lille Barro. Lille's sniping abilities have already proven deadly for the Soul Reapers, so Captain Kyoraku really has his work cut out for him.

Episode #8 saw Mayuri battling Pernida Parnkgjas, the bizarre Quincy who turned out to be the left hand of the Soul King. Pernida's Schrift power proved exceptionally dangerous, forcing Kenpachi Zaraki to lose an arm. Mayuri was enthralled by the discovery of Pernida's true nature, and tried a number of tricks in order to take some of Pernida in for further study, but was unsuccessful at each turn. Pernida proved capable of integrating its nerves with even the ground, allowing it to truly go wild in its fight against the mad scientist Soul Reaper.

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 premieres new episodes on Hulu in the US and Disney Plus internationally on Saturdays, at 7:30 AM Pacific Time/10:30 AM Eastern Time. That means fans can expect episode #9 of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War part 3 to debut on November 30, 2024, at 7:30 AM PT/10:30 AM ET. The English dub has finally begun being uploaded, with the first four episodes currently available dubbed as of November 23. It can be assumed that new dubbed episodes will continue to be released on Saturdays at 6:30 PT/9:30 ET, with episode #5 of the dub set for the next release.

Mayuri Faces Off With the Left Hand of God

Captains Mayuri Kurotsuchi and Zaraki, who ended up separated from the main force of Soul Reapers, headed deeper into the city until they encountered Pernida Parnkgjas, which perplexed Zaraki and got Mayuri curious. After Pernida nearly killed Zaraki by destroying his arm, Mayuri disabled his fellow captain for his own sake, keeping Zaraki from fighting. Mayuri deployed all manner of bizarre techniques on Pernida, thwarting its attacks with relative ease. Mayuri, intrigued by Pernida's unique nature, attempted to capture the Quincy for experimentation, only to discover its regenerative abilities prevented that.

Mayuri even employed a Quincy technique, the Hirenkyaku, against Pernida, allowing him to generate footholds in the air like the Quincy do. When Pernida's nerves infected him, Mayuri rapidly performed surgery on his own arm to extract it and rearrange his own nerves. Mayuri ended up calling upon his modified Bankai, Konjiki Ashisogi Jizo, which gave birth to a giant baby that seemingly devoured the now-massive left arms and ended the battle.

Head Captain Kyoraku Takes on Lille Barro

Episode #9 of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War part 3 is entitled "Don't Chase A Shadow," which shares its name with chapter #645 of the manga. That chapter sees the focus shift back to the main group of Soul Reapers, who are currently under fire from the Quincy sniper, Lille Barro. Lille has already managed to take out a few Soul Reapers, and is well-hidden, making it a struggle to even pin down his location. Captain Kyoraku will make it his duty to be the one to stop Lille and free up the others to continue deeper into Wahr Welt.

Of course, even if they manage to get past Lille, there are other Sternritter still out there, such as Gerard Valkyrie, who could become almost as much of a problem as Lille if given the chance. And that's all assuming that Pernida is down for the count, and that Mayuri's battle truly has come to an end. The Left Arm of the Soul King may prove to be a more powerful opponent than even Mayuri predicted, and who knows how many more tricks Mayuri has left up his sleeve.

There are other storylines out there to check in with as well. Ichigo's group is currently in battle with Askin, while the rogue Sternritter, including Bazz-B, are plotting their own vengeance against Yhwach and Haschwalth. It will be interesting to return to these fights as well, and there's still the question of Renji's fate after being defeated by Uryu to address. There's a lot going on in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War right now, and every one of these fights is going to matter.
