Key Takeaways
- Exciting news - Bosch: Legacy season 3 coming in 2025 on Freevee with returning favorites Welliver, Rogers, and Lintz.
- Fans want Lt. Grace Billets back in season 3 - she was Bosch's trusted ally and should play a role in expanding Bosch-verse.
- Billets could star in her own spin-off or join Renee Ballard series - expanding the universe created by Michael Connelly.
Bosch: Legacy season 3 has wrapped filming, and lead actor and executive producer, Titus Welliver has just confirmed that it'll air sometime in 2025 on Prime Video subsidiary, Freevee. Welliver will be back as the eponymous private investigator, Harry Bosch, alongside co-leads Mimi Rogers as Honey Chandler, and Madison Lintz as Maddie Bosch. The trio of actors will be joined by many more characters from the original series, but there is one major character from Bosch who is yet to make an appearance in the spin-off series. Amy Aquino played Lt Grace Billets in all 68 episodes of Bosch, and her character was one of Bosch's most trusted confidants, which makes her omission from Bosch: Legacy all the more surprising.
The Bosch universe is expanding with the untitled Renee Ballard series, which is currently filming, with Maggie Q in the lead role. In addition to this, the Jerry Edgar spin-off series is in the early stages of development, with the likelihood that more fan-favorite characters could return to the Bosch-verse in the near future. There is definitely scope to explore the character of Lt Grace Billets further, with the possibility of her character returning in Bosch: Legacy season 3 and/or its spin-off shows.

Lt. Grace Billets Is The Only Major Character From The Original Series Yet To Return In Bosch: Legacy And That Should Be Rectified In Season 3

Lt. Grace Billets (Amy Aquino) was the commanding officer of the LAPD Hollywood Division's detective bureau in Bosch, and Harry Bosch's (Titus Welliver) supervisor. Bosch had his issues during his tenure in the LAPD, constantly butting heads with his superiors, but Billets always had his back after they came through the academy together. Despite Lt Grace Billets technically being Bosch's superior, she considered herself to be on a par with him, and always supported him even when he was in the wrong.
After the Homicide division disbanded in the final episode of Bosch, everybody went their separate ways, but when Bosch: Legacy launched on Amazon Freevee, many of these characters from Bosch's time in the LAPD turned up in guest appearances. Maddie Bosch's induction into the LAPD saw the organic return of Sgt. John 'Mank' Mankiewicz (Scott Klace), but Harry Bosch also kept up with his former partner, Jerry Edgar (Jamie Hector) and the kings of banter, Crate and Barrel (Gregory Scott Cummins and Troy Evans), even after they retired, with Bosch: Legacy season 3 also set to feature the fan favorites once again.
Even the less important characters, like detective duo, Rondell Pierce and Christina Vega (DaJuan Johnson and Jacqueline Obradors), re-appeared in Bosch: Legacy season 2 to assist with Bosch's investigation into the murder of Lexi Parks. Despite all of these welcome returns, Lt Grace Billets is nowhere to be seen in Bosch: Legacy, and season 3 needs to bring her back, preferably in an important way that drives the narrative forward.
Billet's absence is more striking as Bosch: Legacy progresses, as she was such an integral part of the original Bosch series. It's not like her absence can be explained easily either, as Billets was promoted to Captain at the end of Bosch season 7, meaning she still firmly exists in the world of law enforcement, which still heavily populates the backdrop of Bosch: Legacy. If Billets doesn't appear in Bosch: Legacy season 3, the audience at least deserves to know what she's up to with a passing comment about her, as no mention has been made of her in Bosch: Legacy's first two seasons.
Lt. Grace Billets Is A Strong Enough Character To Carry Her Own Spin-Off, Or She Could Appear In The Renee Ballard Series

The Bosch-verse that Michael Connelly created with his series of books is finally getting the expanded television universe it deserves, ten years after Bosch debuted on Prime Video in 2014. Maggie Q's Renee Ballard will show up in Bosch: Legacy season 3, before the cold case investigator leads her own spin-off series, and Bosch's next spin-off show could be a possible destination for Lt Grace Billets.
Despite the Ballard series being set on the other side of Los Angeles to where Bosch: Legacy takes place, Billets could still quite feasibly turn up, even if it's discovered she was no longer in law enforcement. In fact, if she wasn't, it could make her appearance even likelier, as Ballard's cold case team tends to recruit ex-law enforcement. It has been confirmed Titus Welliver will play Harry Bosch as a recurring character in the Renee Ballard series, so this might also be a good way to re-unite him with Billets.
Alternatively, if Bosch: Legacy intends to expand the universe even further, Billets is a strong candidate to get her own show. She is a strong enough character to carry her own show, and it would be interesting to catch up with her in her demanding new police role. A guest appearance in Bosch: Legacy could be the perfect backdoor pilot into her own show, to get fans re-acquainted with her character after a long absence.
