OverviewThe National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Graduate Fellowship Program (NGFP) is offering Post-Bachelor’s fellowship opportunities in its Class of 2025-2026 cohort. These fellowships provide unique opportunities for recent undergraduates to: (1) work alongside leading experts at NNSA program and site offices; (2) participate in exclusive professional development, networking, and training opportunities; and (3) engage with national security stakeholders and support leading events and activities around the world. The program is sponsored by NNSA and administered by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

The fellowship is a 12-month, salaried position working with NNSA program offices in Washington, D.C., or at one of the NNSA site locations nationwide. To learn more about the site locations, visit https://www.energy.gov/nnsa/locations.

ResponsibilitiesFellows support a range of mission areas, including nuclear security and nonproliferation policy and technology, national security research and development, and business and project management. Responsibilities vary by assignment and may include domestic and international travel.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

  • Completed a Bachelor's degree on or after April 4, 2023 or will complete prior to January 1st, 2025.
  • Not currently enrolled in a master's or PhD degree.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 required.
  • Candidates must have the ability to obtain a security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Available to work full-time for the duration of the one-year fellowship (June 2025 - June 2026).
  • Selected applicants must supply official transcripts demonstrating eligibility (minimum 3.0 GPA) no later than January 31, 2025.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Comfort interacting with high-level government officials.
  • Open mind to new experiences and the willingness to learn about diverse cultures and perspectives.
  • Proven track record of collaborating with stakeholders.

Additional InformationThis position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a federal security clearance.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Background Investigation: Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter in accordance with 10 CFR 710, Appendix B.
  • Drug Testing: All Security Clearance positions are Testing Designated Positions, which means that the candidate selected is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. In addition, applicants must be able to demonstrate non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for the 12 consecutive months preceding completion of the requisite Questionnaire for National Security Positions (QNSP).

Note: Applicants will be considered ineligible for security clearance processing by the U.S. Department of Energy until non-use of illegal drugs, including marijuana, for 12 months can be demonstrated.

Testing Designated PositionThis position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The candidate selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing for illegal drugs, including marijuana, consistent with the Controlled Substances Act and the PNNL Workplace Substance Abuse Program.
