DEATHS Hendrick dies at 77 Former Shreveport City Judge Ruvian D. Hendrick, 77, died Sunday at Willis-Knighton Hospital after a short illness. Funeral arrangements are pending at Osborn Funeral Home. Hendrick, a native of Natchitoches served on the city a bench for 25 years. Elected in a special election in 1937, he was the city judge for 19 years until a second post was created in 1955.

Active in state politics, he was a candidate for lieutenant governor in 1932, finishing behind John Fournet but ahead of future governor Earl Long. A bid for public service commissioner also fell short by 676 votes in 1930. The judge was a graduate of Belcher High School. He attended Louisiana College and later served on that institution's board of trustees. Prior to his election as city judge, he was ap pointed city clerk of court at the age of 23, one of the youngest persons ever to serve in that position.

Judge Hendrick assisted in the organization of the Pelican Girl Scout Council and served on its original board of directors. He also helped establish the Southern Apprenticeship Council, of which he served as original chairman, and he helped create the framework on which the state Heart Fund was built, also serving as past chairman of that organization. Judge Hendrick, who held a 50-year certificate as a Mason, was past president of the Southwest Grotto Association, past monarch of the Mithra Grotto and past master of the Queensborough Masonic Lodge. He was also past president of the City Judges and Prosecutors Division of the National Safety Council, a member of the Highway Safety Council under President Harry Truman, an organizer of the Mothers March of Dimes, and master of ceremonies for the opening Texas League baseball in Shreveport for 20 years. Judge Hendrick served on the board of directors of the First Baptist Church for more than 30 years.

Survivors include his son, Ruvian Hendrick Jr. of Shreveport; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Krauel of Shreveport; two sisters, Vera Hendrick of Shreveport and Kathleen Bowman of Houston; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ben Woolman Ben Woolman, 31, of Houston died at 12:05 a.m. Sunday at 534 S.

Dresden Court in Shreveport after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Wichita, and had lived in Houston eight years. Mr. Woolman was employed by Rotan-Mosle Inc. Stockbrokers and was a member of Tallowood Baptist Church of Houston.

His wife, Deborah Dooley Woolman, is a former Shreveporter. The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Osborn Funeral Home with Dr. Bill O. Smith and Dr.

James W. Middleton officiating. In addition to his wife, Mr. Woolman's survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Richard Smith of Denver, a son, Seth Nicholas Woolman of Houston; a daughter, Shane Forrest Woolman of Houston; a sister, Mary Margaret Poling of Aurora, and a brother, AI Fred Woolman of Pueblo, Colo. The family requests that any memorials be made to Southside Baptist Church. Lucille Ashley Lucille Ashley, 66, of Shreveport died at 10:10 a.m. Sunday in Heritage Manor Nursing Home after a brief illness. and Cleo Smith of Nacogdoches; three brothers, Ernest C.

Parker of Oklahoma City, Virgel Parker of Nacogdoches and James S. Parker of Cushing, Texas. The Gloster, native had lived in Shreveport 52 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Antioch Cemetery of Minden under the direction of Osborn Funeral Home.

Officiating will be the Rev. Edwin H. House pastor of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, and the Rev. David Felder, a retired Methodist minister. Miss Ashley's survivors include two brothers, S.V.

Ashley of Marshall, Texas, and Ransom E. Ashley of Shreveport and four sisters, Lillian Murff, Ottamease Sanders and Blondell Hilman, all of Shreveport, and Geneva Moore of Price, Texas. Pallbearers will be Miss Ashley's nephews. Amelia Pattison Amelia Pattison, 88, of 3120 Alabama died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Schumpert Medical Center after a brief illness.

Mrs. Pattison was a native of Fordyce, and had lived in Shreveport 75 vears. She was an instructor at a beauty school and a mem. ber of Lakeview Methodist Church. The funeral will be at 10 a.m.

Tuesday in Osborn Funeral Home with the Rev. Leland Wade of Lakeview Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Pattison's survivors include a son, Collins True of Shreveport; two sisters, Emma May Studstill and Julia Miller, both of Shreveport; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Pace, Eugene Pace, Burton Miller, Leonard Collins, Dean Bounds and Roy J. True. Ben R. Davis Funeral services for Ben R. Davis, 93, of 109 E.

Southfield will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Rose- Neath Funeral Home's Marshall Street Chapel. The Rev. William E. Nolan, pastor of St.

Luke's United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. Mr. Davis died Friday in his home after a sudden illness. He was a native of Moss Point, and had lived in Shreveport 13 years.

He was employed by Texaco Co. and was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. Survivors include a son, R.L. Davis of Oakland, a daughter, Mrs.

Tom Pope Jr. of Shreveport; five grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. Pallbearers wiill be Ken Rigby, Leon Brooks, Ray Nicholas, Homer Adams, Hale Colgin, Dr. Mac Hardy, Milton Williams and John Johnson. The family requests that any memorials be made to St.

Luke's United Methodist Church. Florence Roberts Funeral services for Florence Levada Roberts, 73, of Vivian are set for 2 p.m. today in McGuire Funeral Home in Vivian with the Rev. Merlin Liverman, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Vivian, officiating. Burial will be in Vivian Cemetery.

Mrs. Roberts, a native of Soso, died Saturday in North Caddo Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. She had lived in Vivian 17 years and was a Baptist. Survivors include her husband, N.S. Roberts; a son, Norman G.

Roberts Little Rock, two sisters, Mrs. Woodrow Giles of Hosston and Mrs. Royal Bowers of McLeod, Texas; one brother, Richard Welborn of Chalmette; three grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. Pallbearers will be Leon Croft, W.L. Hutchison, J.R.

Maxwell, Hershel Smith, Homer White and C.R. Jaymes. Lula St. Peter Lula Matthews St. Peter, 83, of Shreveport died Sunday in Physicians and Surgeons Hospital.

She was a native of Castor and had lived in Shreveport most of her life. Mrs. St. Peter was a retired PBX operator for Exxon Pipeline Co. and a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Wellman's Funeral Home with C.B. Cooper of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery. Mrs.

St. Peter's survivors include a son, Per. CY V. McBride of Shreveport; a daughter, Merry'o McBride Hunter of Marlton, N.J.; four sisters, Adele Duver, Ruth Mackey, Vonnie Heidecker and Martha Cohen, all of Shreveport; and six grandchildren. Pallbearers will be John McBride, Mike Petree, Scott Petree, Randy Hawkins, Kenny Tubbs and James LeBlanc.

Alice Lewis Funeral services for Alice Smith Lewis, 88, of Virginia Hall Hursing Home are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today in the South Side Chapel of RoseNeath Funeral Home with the Rev. Lewis, a native of Catahoula Parish, died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday at her residence after a short illness. She had lived in Shreveport for 65 years. Survivors include two sons, Carl C. Lewis of Shreveport and James H.

Mr. Parker was a native of Alco and retired from the United States Army. Survivors include his wife, Harriet D. Parker of Leesville; his mother, Myrtle B. Parker of Nacogdoches, Texas; four sisters.
